So you want to breed to Puerto D'Azur and you have some questions. Here are some common questions and answers to help and explain how things work.

Q. What type of mares cross best with your stallion?
A. He has proven to cross well with TB and lighter type warmblood mares. He does add bulk and height per his offspring/crosses to date.
Q. What mares will you accept to your stallion?
A. We will accept mares from Jockey Club, Arabian or any of the warmblood associations/registries.
Q. What color is he?
A. Puerto is a dark bay with red dapples. In some pictures he looks black, but he is really a bay with red tints.
Q. What are his negative qualities?
A. He has a very thick, old style neck. I would hesitate to breed him to a mare that has a thick/cresty type neck. I also would not cross him on a mare that is big/thick boned as his offspring seem to get added bone and bulk unless your looking for the larger boned type.
Q. What is his temperament like?
A. Puerto is a gentleman and always tries to please me. He IS a talker and likes his girls, but does not have a mean bone in his body. I let the kids groom him and non pros graze and handle him often. He is a worker, he likes to work. Great work ethic. He does not bite, kick or act aggressive in any ways. His offspring have noted to have super attitudes and trainability as well. I would be more than happy to send you contact info of offspring owners. If I had anything negative about his temperament is the lack of social skills. He was not shown heavy after the 100DT and gets excited by new places and new horses, but that is a conditional issue, not a genetic one. Even when he is excited he is still well mannered and respectful.
Q. What registries is your stallion approved for?
A. Puerto is full approved BWP as well as with other registries. We will activate him fully next year with BWP, OLD/NA. Foals from approved SWB mares can get full standard registration papers with SWANA. Several of the other registries he is not activated with will accept Puerto D'Azur foals with an outside stallion fee.

Q. What are his offspring doing?
A. He has offspring competing in rated hunter show, jumper shows, dressage and eventing. See our offspring page for more info on his offspring and pics.
Q. How does he ship? Semen Quality?
A. Puerto ships very well with an average 24hr motility of 65% or better. We even have had a few vets hold the semen to 2 days post ejaculation and it still was very good. I would be happy to give you outside vets and owners who have used us.
Q. What days do you collect?
A. We collect Monday thru Friday and local pick up on the weekends. I do not offer counter to counter as the airport is to far from our farm to do so. Please give us as much notice as possible but I will try to accommodate those uncooperative mares who surprise the vets at the last minute.

Q. How do I get papers for my foal?
A. Depending on which registry you wish to go to, you will need to let me know when your foal is born and I will send out a stallion breeding certificate to you from the association required. Then you will follow your registries rules on registration requirements/procedures and turn in the paperwork as they request.
Q. Does your stallion have a DNA case number?
A. Yes.

Q. I want to breed to Puerto, what do I do now?
A. You will need to have me send you a stallion contract which you will have to sign, date and send back to me along with a copy of your mares papers. You can scan it, fax it or mail it as long as I have it in hand before you request semen. Along with the contract you will need to send the booking fee of $250. If you are going to request semen in the near future, it would be wise to send your whole stud fee, along with your collection costs so there is not any hold ups. All fees must be paid prior to semen being sent. We accept credit cards via paypal, checks and money transfers via bank.
